What is a Dahlia Tuber?

A dahlia tuber is the foundation for these beautiful flowers that provides food, water and nutrients for a dahlia plant to be able to establish itself. Think of it like a flower bulb, but unique to dahlias—a storage root that, when planted and cared for, grows into a vibrant plant bursting with colorful blooms.

Tried & True Varieties: We offer stunning, high-quality tubers perfect for gardens of all sizes that have been PROVEN to grow and thrive in our Midwest climate.
All tubers have been produced on the farm. These are not "pass through" tubers that the Farm has purchased elsewhere and is selling off extras. We have personal growing success with all the tuber varieties being offered.
We are not a "you-pick" farm. This matters a lot. By not allowing anyone other than the Two Trees team to harvest in our field, following meticulous standards of disinfection between each plant, this ensures and dramatically reduces the likelihood of spread of viral infections (yes plants get viruses too!) amongst the dahlias (which also then infects the tubers).
All of our dahlias were procured from other highly regarded small growers from coast to coast. Many of our varieties are "boutique" varieties that are less common and harder to find. The dahlias we grow were bred specifically to have abundant blooms, long and strong stems, and excellent tuber production. These are not tubers bought from large wholesale catalogs or box stores.

How to Grow Dahlias: Simple Steps to Success

1. Planting:

Once the danger of frost has passed (usually in spring), plant your dahlia tuber in well-draining soil. Choose a sunny spot—dahlias love 6-8 hours of sunlight each day!
Place the tuber horizontally about 4-6 inches deep with the “eye” (a small bump) facing upward.

2. Watering & Care

After planting, wait until shoots appear to water deeply. Overwatering too early can cause the tuber to rot. Once your dahlias are growing, keep the soil moist but not soggy.

3. Support

As your dahlias grow, they’ll need support. Adding stakes or cages early will keep those beautiful blooms standing tall

4. Enjoy the Blooms

By mid to late summer, your dahlias will burst into bloom, filling your garden with vibrant colors. Cut and enjoy them indoors or share with loved ones—dahlias make perfect cut flowers!

After only two months, Two Trees Flower Farm was established, and Jill proudly combines her skills as a grower and designer to bring fresh, locally grown flowers to her community.

The name Two Trees encapsulates the beautiful and profound nature of Jill’s journey. The Two Trees at the heart of the farm’s origin story – a White Pine and a River Birch – represent so much- love family loyalty strength and resilience. These Two Trees are love made visible and are a tangible testament to walking by faith and not by sight.

Every stem at Two Trees is nurtured with care, handpicked at the peak of freshness, and thoughtfully arranged to celebrate nature’s beauty. These flowers are such an amazing burst of color, and a welcome signal that winter is ending! Mother’s day, Easter, and everything in between calls for these beautiful blooms.

There are many inquiries into purchasing original photography taken on the Farm, so this is now a formal offering! Please email directly to inquire. All photographs listed on our social media and website are available for purchase, in assorted canvases, floating frames, wooden panel boards.

On Farm Farmstand

The Farm Stand is open during most of the growing season, with days and hours that vary accordingly. Generally, we are open Saturdays and Sundays 9 am – 3 pm, as well as the “Farmstand at dusk” offered beginning in August, Thursday and Friday evenings, 4 pm until dark. Please check the website/social media platforms to confirm specific days and times, to ensure there are plenty of gorgeous blooms waiting for you when you get here!
